How to Modernize Your Commercial Office Space

As an office-based business owner, it’s your responsibility to ensure your workplace is clean and looks professional. It should inspire productivity and teamwork while also being practical and free of hazards.

If it’s been a while since you’ve updated your office space, there’s no better time than now to do so. Having a modern workplace is essential to keep your employees happy and motivated and to keep your business afloat in a competitive market.

How to Modernize Your Commercial Office Space

You’ll be glad to hear that you don’t need to spend a fortune renovating every last inch of your commercial office to make it look and feel great. The smaller, less expensive touches can make all the difference.

With that being said, there’s nothing wrong with splashing the cash on your office renovations if you’ve got the budget! If you want a luxury commercial carpet or an expensive water fountain in your office, go ahead!

If you’re not sure where to start with modernizing your office space, here are some top tips to get you started.

Update your flooring

Carpets can start to look shabby after several years of use, especially in areas with high foot traffic, like entranceways and hallways. Shabby carpets can look unprofessional and outdated, and they can also cause personal injuries if they’re pulled or loose.

Similarly, hardwood flooring can start to show signs of wear and tear over time. This is particularly true for cheaper types of hardwood flooring, such as those coated in laminate or vinyl.

Updating your flooring at least once every 5-10 years (or more in busy areas) will keep your office looking modern and professional to staff and clients. Consider sticking to hardwood, concrete, or stone for hallways and carpets for working areas and meeting rooms.

Paint the walls

As with flooring, the state of your walls can make or break your office. Chipped paintwork or faded wallpaper can be uninviting and uninspiring, neither of which is great when trying to build a productive office area.

A simple coat of paint can bring your workplace back to life if it’s looking a little worse for wear. Stick with neutral colors for your walls to avoid distracting your workers. You can add color through artwork or accessories if you wish to spice up your office’s interior design.

Add plants and flowers to your office space

Greenery is the perfect way to decorate your office in a way that is eye-catching but not overbearing. You can place plants and flowers in each room of your office to keep the whole area bright and welcoming.

Studies show that greenery can also increase focus and reduce stress and anxiety. So, placing large plants and hanging flower baskets in your office can boost your team’s motivation and reduce the risk of work-related stress or burnout.

You don’t need to use real plants if you’d rather not have to keep up with watering them every day. Fake planters and flower pots will look just as good!
