Medela Review & Giveaway

I received a sample for the sole purpose of this review
Nursing has been super important to me this time around. I never tried with my 6.5 year old and I tried with my 2 year old, but he had a terrible latch and I ended up pumping for almost 3 months for him. I definitely wanted to be able to successfully nurse this time around and am happy to say that today is day 9 and he has not had 1 drop of formula.

Even though establishing a breastfeeding relationship is very important, I also wanted a few bottles on hand so my husband and babysitters could feed Liam as well. I knew that the Medela Calma was a great bottle on the market for switching between breast and bottle.

I really like the design of it and it's different from any other bottle out there. Being it's from Medela (a leading brand in breastfeeding), I knew it would be wonderful.

It has a totally open nipple on top. One may think that this would drown your baby, but the reality is it doesn't.
The nipple is 3 parts. On the part on the right you can see a very small hole for milk to get through. On the middle part, there is a very tiny pin point hole that milk comes through.
Very tiny hole!

When the baby sucks a small stream comes out the nipple and it definitely mimics the breast and breastfeeding.

We have used this bottle a couple times now and Liam doesn't really take to it, BUT he hasn't taken any bottle very well, I think he just prefers mama!

Overall this bottle is amazing though, it doesn't drown your child and cause them to overeat like most bottles do. With most bottles the stream is constant and it can cause them to overeat and choke, spit up, etc. This bottle isn't like that and it allows them to eat on their own pace. It doesn't drip out when tipped over at all.

"Calma was developed using evidence-based research on babies' natural feeding behavior, so you can enjoy your breastfeeding bond longer. Your baby has a unique sucking pattern, including pauses to swallow and breathe. By using Calma, your baby is able to feed and pause naturally. This helps to slow down the feed and results in a calm and relaxed baby during and after feeding. This natural feeding behavior supports easy transition from bottle back to breast."

Price: 5oz bottle is $19.99 and the 9oz is $24.99. YES it's pricey, but really you only NEED 1-2 bottles anyway, so invest in a good one and go from there!

Overall: *****
*Disclaimer* I received an item directly from Medela in exchange for a review. I was not paid to try out these products*
A big thank you goes out to Medela for allowing me to review this product and for offering a giveaway

I breastfed two children. But I pumped. I couldn't do it from breasts. I didn't have enough milk and needed to get medicine from overseas to help.

I plan on breastfeeding baby #2. I made it 13 months with my daughter before she self weaned, so I will probably do the same with this baby and let them go till he/she is done.
