I've finally worked up the nerve to ask Jon to Marry me!! I want to do it on Christmas, but am afraid I won't have the band by then. I wanted to do it on Valentine's day, but don't want to wait that long. So I WILL propose to him WITH A RING on New Year's Eve (at or around Midnight).
I wanted to get him a Titanium band as he has a matching watch that he wears daily and it's impossible to scratch. But They can't be sized smaller and Jon is trying to lose weight right now. So looks like I'm stuck with Sterling Silver as it's the cheaper version. I'm looking to spend under $125, but Don't even know his ring size! Maybe I'll go into Kay jewelers and have his other ring sized and then maybe I'll buy online CHEAPER! Amazon is cheap!
So I'm going to wrap it in a bigger box and POSSIBLY even ANOTHER bigger box and as he's opening it give a little 15 second speech or so. Then as he's opening the last box I will say
"I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you spend a New Year and new beginning with me? Will you Marry me?"
Cheesy???
I really think this is going to work. and I really think I can pull this off! I just need to know his Damn Ring Size!!!!! Ughhh.
Once I find out his size (They have a chart right on Amazon) I think I'll buy this ring!

It's just so plain you know? But I guess it is the thought that counts!!!
Luckily he doesn't have a heavy duty job he works in an office so this won't get ruined easily. It is Sterling Silver and is $30!! That I can do!

Oh, how wonderful. Weddings and engagements are such fun! Maybe you could have his and your initials engraved inside for an extra special touch? I would have liked that for my husband except he doesn't wear rings. He doesn't like them. I'd threatened him before that he would have to get "married" tattooed on his forehead LOL.
I hope it works for you! Good luck with that size. How do guys do that secretly anyway?

Heather,
I'm just a little bit worried that your surprise, although tremendously romantic, might get spoiled if it is on your public blog?
You should consider getting him a promise ring that can later be replaced by the real wedding band so you can have new matching bands for the actual wedding ceremony. The promise band will always be special, and maybe you can get something thin so he can wear both bands on the same finger? Or maybe the same ring in silver or white gold can be "upgraded" at the ceremony to the platinum band?
Last thought, if you choose something in silver or gold as a promise ring and your size is not too much smaller then you might be able to size it down for yourself to wear after the wedding as a special keepsake knowing he wore it through the engagement. Isn't that romantic? Or if his fingers are really big or yours are really small you could possibly wear it on a chain later on as well.
Wow, and to think I was just checking to see who won the Strider bike....
Good luck to you both, my husband and I have been married now for 16 years and have an 8 and almost 2 year old daughters. We wear these really thin really cheap matching white gold bands that we bought each other shortly after we met. There were no rings in the ceremony at all (we got married at the courthouse 3 years later)and we still wear the same ones today. I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Thank you! He doesn't do any social networking and Nobody knows who my "SO" is!! So I think it's pretty safe here. And It's only just over a month away!
I'm closing down the giveaway now!
Thanks for all the suggestions! I like the idea of wearing it as a necklace. He's like a 13-14 and I'm a 5 1/2 so that wouldn't work to have it re-sized, but I like the idea of it on a chain!
Maybe this will be the "engagement" ring and then when we get married we will get matching bands and I will do that!! Thanks!!
