I have no idea how long I'll need nipple cream, but I figured it was worth it to figure out how to make my own and do it myself. So here is an EASY recipe!
(Links are exact items used)
2 parts Shea Butter
1 part Beeswax
I used everything above except for about 2 small chunks of the Beeswax.
I started by shredding the beeswax, but it was taking forever, so I just cut it up.
I used 1 bar of Beeswax (minus the 2 chunks) and then roughly 2oz of coconut and 2oz of shea. Give or take. Not an exact science.
DIRECTIONS
1. Create a double boiler on the stove and get it boiling.
2. Put in coconut oil and melt
3. Add in shea and melt
4. Add in beeswax and fully melt (this one takes the longest)
5. Take off heat and let cool a little
6. Pour into container of choice and let cool overnight
Then just cap it and use it! It's really soft!!
The above amounts got me 4oz of cream. I used an old baby food jar.
If you want more, up the amounts.
This would make a great new mommy gift :)
Thank you for making and sharing your recipe for Homemade Nipple Butter. Upon reading the ingredients it's a wonder that anyone would want to buy it from a store. All of these ingredients are natural with no chemicals and if you've made other homemade creams or lotions, you would already have these ingredients on hand.
ReplyDeleteI love this. I am less than 3 weeks away from having my baby girl and I am already trying to prepare myself for our breastfeeding journey together. I will definitely be making this as I know how sore I can get from breastfeeding. Thank you!

Thank you for this recipe. It looks smooth and soothing. I'll try it when I run out of Lansinoh.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this! I have been interested in buy some natural products, but I would love to make my own!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, I'm going to try this for my first who is due any day!--- Jessica Malik
ReplyDeleteThank you for providing this recipe!!! I'm due with my first in July and decided on Motherlove nipple cream over Earth Mama Angel Baby based on the reviews I read, though it seems like both could work very, very well. There were enough people who like Motherlove over the other that it seemed worth going for it. What's your opinion on how this recipe compares to either of the other two brands?
ReplyDeleteErica, I have the Motherlove and really like it, it goes on so soft and smooth and is easy to get out of the container. Since it's cold and winter, this one is a bit hard because of the coconut oil, but healing wise I prefer this homemade one. Coconut oil is a great antimicrobial so it's wonderful for keeping thrush and infection at bay!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this! I had really bad cracking the first time around and lanolin didn't help much at the beginning. I may make some of this and give it a try with this baby.
ReplyDeleteI always heard that coconut oil was great for diaper rash but never once thought about using it for your nipples! Here i've always bought the $10 tube of lansinol! lol
ReplyDeletethis wouldve really came in handy when i had my 3 kids but ill pass it on to my best friend she is havn her first kid
ReplyDeleteThis sounds great and useful. I wish I knew how to make this when I was nursing, I had a lot of problems.

That's a great idea and it does seem easy to make. Where would you buy Shea.
ReplyDeleteThis is really awesome. I wish I saw/knew about this while I was still nursing! BUT if I ever have another kid, I'll know! thanks!
ReplyDeleteIts been a while since I had my little one and this would have definitely helped. However, I'm going to pass this information along to my friend who just had a little girl. Thanks for the information.
ReplyDeleteDue in Aug, and I'm sure I'll need some! My sister is always willing to help me make things that are natural, so this is going on to make list!
ReplyDeleteI'm due in September and sure that this will come in handy once we start breastfeeding.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Will keep this in mind...for me and for friends too. Love not having to go out and buy $$$ creams. Less ingredients the better me and baby feel about it! :)
ReplyDeleteI am so very thankful I stumbled across this post! My daughter is expecting her third child any day now and she has had terribly sore and cracked nipples while breastfeeding the other two. And you are right, you can spend a small fortune on the products to give relief - or you can make your own. I am definitely going to make this in the next few days for her to have on hand. Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this recipe, this is great for mommies.
ReplyDeleteLove natural home remedies and all things home made! Thank you for the recipe!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great recipe! Thank you! They do charge a lot for nipple cream. I will definitely make this.
ReplyDeletei like the basis of this recipe! i might try adding vitamin E for its healing properties. Also i wonder about putting a tiny bit of yarrow extract in it since it is such a powerful healing plant. will probably have to check on safety for baby on that one but for sure some vitamin e. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis looks a lot easier to make than I thought it would. I know some mommy friends would could definitely use this.
ReplyDeleteI love this, I've never seen a recipe for nipple cream before! Does this keep well? It's so great to make what we can instead of buying things that are overpriced anyways.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this recipe. I am 6 months into nursing baby 2 and I just found out we are expecting baby 3. I will definitely need to stock up on this stuff!
ReplyDeleteI would have never thought to use beeswax. I might make a batch of this and try it out.
ReplyDeleteI made mine in January and it's still holding up well in mid May. Thankfully I don't really need it anymore, but I also use it as diaper rash cream and eczema cream as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! I never thought of making my own.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I'm not terribly DIY-friendly, but this seems like even I could make it!
ReplyDeleteMy "baby" is having her first baby in the new year and I'm trying to find all of the helpful things that I can for her.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to bookmark this for future use; I love that its all natural!
Thanks

ReplyDeleteooh this is even simpler than the lotion bars i make! i'll have to try some, im sure it would make a great salve too!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's great! I am going to be a first time mom soon, and things like nipple cream/butter does get expensive!! I love making homemade stuff to save money. Would you recommend to take the butter off before feeding baby? thank yoU!

ReplyDeleteThis sounds perfect to put in my daughter's arsenal of "new mommy necessities"! She's due in February with her first :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great info! Our firstborn is due in February and we intend to breastfeed, so I anticipate the need for nipple creams and the like. I'm so happy to have found a recipe on how to make it myself to try to keep things more natural (and cheaper)! Looking forward to trying this out. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try this! Im due in January and remember the sore nipples when I started nursing with my older kiddos! I enjoy making my own products!

ReplyDeleteIm so glad i saw this before baby comes
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your recipe! SO natural and easy to make.
ReplyDeleteVery clever and you are right as far as why buy it when you can make it! Usually the products for this the money is all in the marketing and making your own you know exactly what is in it. I hope nurrsing gets easier I think it hurts every time!
ReplyDeleteI have everything to make this! Thanks for the recipe and I will update how I like it in use.
ReplyDeleteI love using Shea Butter! My supervisor at work makes natural remedies and sells them. I prefer to use natural remedies.
ReplyDeleteI use a similar recipe for lip balm, it works great!

ReplyDeleteThank you for the recipe! I will have to make some of this ahead of time before baby is born because I know I'll need it (based on my experience with my first baby)
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew there was a recipe for this when I was nursing, the first couple months, the pain was awful!! I just recently discovered all the uses for coconut oil and usually recommend it to nursing friends. I am going to pin this and share in my mommy group. Thanks for posting!!
