When the steroids are stopped, the eczema will most likely return. Over time, the steroids become less and less effective, so stronger steroids must be used. Eventually, the steroids not only don’t work anymore, they are actually causing “steroid induced eczema”. Also, topical steroids can have serious side effects, including affecting the adrenal system and even causing glaucoma.

This “topical steroid addiction” only has one cure: total cessation of steroids, and the ensuing tropical steroid withdrawal (TSW) can be a living hell. I know this firsthand, as do thousands of other people or their children going through TSW. Please visit itsan dot org for additional information or do an Internet search for “topical steroid withdrawal” or “red skin syndrome”. ITSAN, the International Topical Steroid Addiction Network, is a tax exempt charity with a mission is to support individuals during TSW fostering physician and patient education for prevention and treatment and raising awareness.

Most doctors are either unaware of TSW or choose to ignore it and continue to suggest or prescribe steroids because to do so is extremely effective in the short term. Well meaning doctors and parents want to do what helps their child, but it can be very harmful in the long run.

Baby Pibu markets a line of skin care products for babies that for the most part are harmless, with one glaring exception. "Baby Pibu Rash Relief" contains the steroid hydrocortisone. Baby Pibu has recently been made aware of TSW and has actually stopped sales of the standalone Rash Relief product, but continues to include it in an "Eczema Care" kit and a "Newborn Essentials Skincare Set", and retailers such as you may still carry it.

Baby Pibu claims that The National Eczema Association has accepted its products, but that does not include Rash Relief. The NEA states directly that steroids should not be used on children under age 2.

I am requesting that you cease sales of any Baby Pibu products that contain hydrocortisone. Please contact Baby Pibu and request that they only supply you with non-steroid products to sell.

Thank you.
Dave Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03938134400893131673noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4611795299401629728.post-26766288120457220752014-05-30T13:07:33.101-04:002014-05-30T13:07:33.101-04:00Perhaps you'd be interested in the pictures on...Perhaps you'd be interested in the pictures on my blog.

Be warned, they are quite graphic.

They show the damage done to my skin by steroid creams over the years.

I started with mild creams like hydrocortisone (the same as baby pibu rash relief) and gradually progressed or stronger creams up until they stopped working altogether.

My skin thinned and atrophied and burned. I went through a terrible withdrawal phase.

I beg you, for the sake of your children, do NOT use steroid creams for eczema and please do not use them on newborn skin.

These products are anything but safe and natural as they are made out to be.

Please don't let your precious childrens skin end up like mine.Louisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15469340247407868766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4611795299401629728.post-56973121289154753932014-04-17T11:40:10.932-04:002014-04-17T11:40:10.932-04:00This looks like a great kit.
