FANS CHOOSE TOP TEN METRO DETROIT LANDMARKS TO APPEAR IN LEGOLAND® DISCOVERY CENTER MICHIGAN’S MINILAND
Second round of MINILAND voting will determine the top landmark Nov. 2-16 on Facebook
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 28, 2015 – LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Michigan today announced the Top Ten results from a public fan vote that determined metro Detroit’s favorite landmarks, all of which will be built from LEGO® bricks and featured in MINILAND when the attraction opens next spring.
More than 1,100 votes were cast in the first round of write-in voting, which identified the Top Ten metro Detroit landmarks as:
· GM Renaissance Center
· Spirit of Detroit
· Belle Isle
· Motown Museum
· Fox Theater
· Guardian Building
· Comerica Park
· Uniroyal Tire
· Michigan Central Station
· Heidelberg Project
Opening in spring 2016, LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Michigan’s MINILAND will be a miniature LEGO brick landscape inspired by metro Detroit’s buildings, attractions and other notable landmarks. MINILAND is one of the most highly anticipated displays at each new LEGOLAND Discovery Center.
“We are so pleased with the overwhelming response to our MINILAND vote from LEGO fans and Michigan residents,” said Hayley Anderson, general manager for LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan. “MINILAND will be an exciting addition to our attraction, one that is even more special because of the strength of community participation. We are very eager to see what fans will choose as the metro Detroit area’s top landmark.”
The second round of MINILAND voting will ask fans to vote on one landmark from the Top Ten, and will run through LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan’s Facebook page from Monday, Nov. 2, through Monday, Nov. 16. The winning landmark will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 18, and will be unveiled at a special event prior to LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan's grand opening at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills.
LEGOLAND Discovery Center Michigan will be a 32,000-square-foot indoor attraction featuring millions of LEGO bricks and themed exhibits including a 4D cinema, two interactive rides, large soft play areas and much more. We got a Legoland near Orlando a few years ago and it's so much fun! When it opens, you will certainly enjoy it. So cool that they're making local landmarks too. :)
