2013 Kia Rio

Looking for a compact car that has an amazing price and gets great gas mileage? Then the 2013 Kia Rio just might be the car for you.

The 2013 Kia Rio has an estimated MPG of 28 city an 36 highway. You truly can't beat that MPG in a vehicle unless it's electric/hybrid.

This car might be tiny, but it sure packs a punch.
With a base price of just $13,600 this car is very affordable and has some wonderful features that you'd think would come at a higher price.

My favorite feature is of course the push start. You can leave your keys in your pocket or purse, push the brake pedal and then push the button to start your car. It truly doesn't get any easier than that. Your keys never have to leave your side and there's no fear of leaving them in the car. Plus with the button on the driver door you can't lock your keys in your car anyway, if the Smart Key is within a certain distance you can just push the button on the door handle and it unlocks the door with ease.

The radio dashboard is real slick and sleek looking. Definitely has a sporty look to it that any person could appreciate.
It has the touch screen on it and it makes tuning super easy.
The one I drove also has the Navigation Package with Sirius Traffic updates.

The steering wheel has all the right controls needed to make your ride as comfortable and easy as possible.
MPG is displayed right on your dashboard so it's right in front of you at all times.
This picture was taken in the beginning of the tank after only having it a couple days, so it wasn't to it's full potential yet. I think when we returned it, it was closer to 27 mpg. We do live in the city.

There was lots of leg room in the front for the passenger

But not a whole lot in the back.

My most favorite part of this whole car though was definitely the trunk. This was the biggest trunk I have ever seen in a car (I believe), even my husband's Chrysler 300.
This trunk could hold everything you need in it and then some.
It held my stroller, baby carrier and a week's worth of groceries with complete ease.

You can also fold down the back seat to make more room for items in your trunk.

And another great feature is the driver and passenger door have a cup holder in them

The Kia Rio that I drove had heated leather seats as well, which is definitely a nice feature to have in the cold winters.
The Kia Rio I think would be best for a single person or a couple, the back seat is pretty small and young children might have trouble fitting back there comfortably or easily.

The Kia Rio is definitely a safe car. It has Dual front advanced airbags and also full length curtain airbags on the sides. They go the full length of the vehicle protecting the sides of your head if you were to ever be in a crash.

The Kia Rio also received an award for the US EPA SmartWay Certification Mark. This means that it received a recognition for being one of the cleanest fuel efficient vehicles, based on it's greenhouse gas an air pollution scores.

Overall it's a great little car. It handled great and drove great, it was just small for our ever growing family!
The vehicle I received was the Kia Rio SX and had a price tag of $21,340. Still at their most expensive model, that is super affordable.

*Disclaimer, I received a Kia Rio for a 1 week test drive. All opinions here are 100% my own and I was not compensated to write this post, other than receiving the vehicle.

  1. How cool is it that you get to test drive cars?! So fun! This looks like a great commuter car, but I'm not too excited about the lack of legroom in the back. I like the cupholders in the door, that's different.

  6. Great price for that car! And it is a cute one to run errands in.

  7. I love the push button start feature on cars, I wish mine had that! And heated seats are just the best thing in the winter (or when it's that time of the month, it's pretty comforting).

  11. I like the airbags for safety on this. Seems they went the extra mile for safety which is important and love the price isn't outrageous on this either.

  17. In my opinion, Kia has really come a long way. I like the layout of the Rio, especially the trunk space. The console is nicely set up, and the gas mileage is terrific.

  18. It sure is a cute little car, but it is a bit too little for our family of six. We are definitely considering Kia for our next minivan though.

  19. Nice car! I like that it's affordable

  20. really impressed that kia now is coming out with better cars. Beautiful car and really nice interior

  21. I love the push start feature. My car has the steering controls too and it keeps my eyes on the road and off the radio. I also love the Bluetooth feature. Makes handsfree talking a synch.

  22. Wow great looking car. I have never driven a Kia but my sister has one and loves it. I have a suv but have decided it is time to downsize and be economical. I will have to give this one a test drive.

  23. Kia, Ria and Soul are the 3 kittens found at my local dealership that sells the Kia. Nice people. They took care of them and found them homes. Nice cars too!

  24. That's a slick little car. Nice price, too! I'd definitely consider purchasing one if I wasn't already in love with my own car and planning to be buried with it!

  25. I would love to test drive this baby! It looks so fun to drive! I really love the push start but I think it might be hard to get used to.

  26. I am surprised how much trunk room this car has. Very nice looking!

  27. I'd love to trade in my minivan for a cute little car like this once my kids go to college. It looks like so much fun to drive!

  32. Nice looking compact but too small for a family.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It is a nice looking car, but no offense I am strictly GM vehicle owner. Husband works for Gm so I kinda have to be.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sure is sporty-sleek. The dash, with the radio and all the gizmos, looks like an airplane cockpit.
Though I love my vehicle, I'm a bit jealous of the MPG on this KIA (almost 2X mine, and it is not a huge SUV or truck).
What a roomy trunk - such an important and often overlooked aspect of the car as buyers get swept up in the exterior.
Great review, thank you for the information. Aloha.

  35. We currently own an older model Kia Rio and its also small but we love it! I personally don't like the dashboard on the one you reviewed but its probably just a matter of me getting used to it, as I would sacrifice the dashboard for the trunk space, though I'm not a fan of the back seat leg room. I'm glad you mentioned car seats, I was wondering about that since in the pic the back seat looks kinda small-- not a + for use since we sometimes have to cram 3 kids under 3 in our current small Rio when I babysit my cousins kids. I still love my Rio though and would get another Kia.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That large trunk would be great for road trips.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow! I am impressed as to what this car has to offer. I never knew before and was unsure... I can guarantee that I will be looking into one of these once I decide to make a purchase

  46. Firstly love the color of the car. Otherwise it would be fine for me but my guys are all 6 footers so if it doesn't have much leg room other than the front they would be out. I love the truck room too. A lot of my cars are like that and I love not having to get a truck to haul anything because it fits in my car. Nice ride.

    ReplyDelete
  47. It's a great looking car for the price. I would consider one if in the market.

    ReplyDelete
  48. See like a nice car but it wouldn't fit our family.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Love that color - Kias have come a long ways lately!

    ReplyDelete
  50. With the great mileage it would be a great car for my husband's commute. And we'd still have my van for going out with the baby!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I love this car. I don't drive very much anymore but this car would be perfect for me. I love the key in your pocket thing where can start up your car and the warming seat is for me. What a great car.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Good choice. We are looking for a new car and the Kia Rio is on our list.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Compact cars are outgrown too fast. We chose a midsize car.

    ReplyDelete
  80. It bugs me that the legroom in the back is non existant. Might as well have a 2 seater.

    ReplyDelete
  81. super-cute car, but being an epileptic, this doesn't apply to me.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Cute car! Would be a great commuter vehicle for my husband. I couldn't imagine putting more than one carseat in it, but would be nice to have a fuel efficient vehicle around for when you don't want to haul around a gas guzzler!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I definitely like the size of the trunk.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I love that giant trunk! I have a Jeep Liberty and even though it is big, it has no room for junk in the trunk. Ugh. Maybe a car is more up my alley than I thought...

    ReplyDelete
  85. That's a huge trunk! I never would have guessed there was all that cargo space!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  98. I love Kia's they are so dependable we have a 2008 Sorrento and we are now just replacing the brakes. These cars last long and are very reliable. Kia makes great cars so I am absolutely sure that the Rio is everything you said it was and it really isn't a bad price either.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Great review! I really didn't think I could get a car with such great gas mileage at such a low price, but you've proved me wrong. And I never really thought about a push-button start before, but now I really want one! I always have my hands full with toddler stuff and not having to search through my purse for keys would be a big bonus. :)

    ReplyDelete
  123. That trunk does look huge! Leg room in the back seat isn't great but I don't use my backseat much anyway and a baby doesn't need much legroom:)

    ReplyDelete
  124. Definitely would only need the heated leather seats up North. Not so much here in Florida.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Cute car and reasonable price! The trunk looks like it has a lot of room.

  138. We actually seriously considered a Rio for our second car - the local dealership was offering a "buy a 2014 minivan, get a 2013 Rio free!" Unfortunately, "free" meant "We'll write you a check for 3 years worth of lease payments." So we wound up getting a Dodge minivan and keeping our 94 Impreza as the second car for now.
