Since switching to cloth diapers and being on certain forums, I've learned to be more green and research more and more ways to do so. In doing a lot of research I have learned and tried many things in order to benefit my family. Some of those include, Making my own laundry detergent, going no 'poo, making my own hand soap and clothes for Avery... etc. The list seriously goes on and on and on. Some I don't like, but most I have stuck with and make all the time.
Also in the efforts of going more green I came up with cloth pads OR Mama Cloth as they are sometimes called.
At first I thought eww ok that's gross. But then as more research came along I discovered that it can make your period lighter, less to no cramps and last shorter. I'm on the mirena so my periods are already super light and short, but why not make that even less right? So I put the eww factor behind me and I decided to try and make the switch.
In doing so I came across many websites that I was attracted to. One of them being Yurtcraft. I was immediately attracted to her sight and she has such beautiful pads.
The one I chose and bought was the 9.25" Eco Bamboo Owl Pad. I just fell in love with this print!
Is that print NOT to die for??? I absolutely love it.
Now because a period is a rare thing (well some would say) I have only been able to try this ONE time before writing this review. Only because I don't want the sponsor hooked up and waiting for the review. I thought it was only fair.
This pad is made so well. The stitching is straight. The snaps are put on great. I like that the pad is a little wider as it covers the whole panty area down there and I don't have to worry about leaks. There is Cotton on top, Fleece on the back (which is waterproof) and Bamboo terry and Bamboo fleece in between those 2 layers. I love that I have BAMBOO down there as opposed to plastic. Isn't that better for you?
Do you know what's in a disposable menstrual pad? Do you want to? If not PLEASE skip what I'm about to show you. Here is some info on disposable tampons AND pads
No wonder so many women in the world suffer from cervical cancer and womb tumors. Have you heard that tampon makers include asbestos in tampons? Why would they do this?
Because asbestos makes you bleed more, if you bleed more, you're going to need to use more. Why isn't this against the law since asbestos is so dangerous? Because the powers that be, in all their wisdom (not), did not consider tampons as being ingested, and, therefore, didn't consider them illegal or dangerous.

DO NOT wear the same pad for more than 3 hours of a maximum!!! After this duration, the genital area is prone to bacterial action and may result in cervical cancer or other complications!!!!!!!!!!
I guess I couldn't find ingredients but that stuff above was enough to scare me off...
Cost of 30 years worth of cloth pads: $240-1,000
Cost of 30 years of disposables: $3,600
Since using cloth pads this whole cycle I feel better, am not as grossed out about it and I will be buying more so I never run out.
I have 5 right now and that was enough to get me through 1 period. Most woman switch their pad twice a day in morning and at night. I only wore 1 so maybe that's why. But I think 10-12 should be enough for the average woman.
I can't vote for absorbency as my periods are not heavy AT ALL (thank you Mirena) but I'm sure they would do fantastic. And it's better than cellulose gel and plastic right?
One more tidbit, Did you know that the ingredient they took out of tampons that caused TSS (Tocix Shock Syndrome) they use in disposable diapers? One more reason to switch to cloth!
Price: Yurtcraft's pads depend on what you want, but her 7" liners are $4.25, cotton topped are $6.50 and $7.50, and flannel topped are $8.25. These are reasonable. Think about it... $100 and you have pads for life really, but I don't think they'd last that long. Maybe 5 years? that's a HUGE savings!
Overall: ***** I was very happy with her pad

I have been SERIOUSLY thinking about getting some mama cloth... and I LOVE LOVE the owl print too!
