Usually when one of my children wins an award it is computer
generated on a piece of paper-sometimes framed-sometimes not. Now I am always
excited and make a big deal about it-sending notices to all my friends and
family. After all, to win an award for anything is a big accomplishment in any
child’s life. The pride I see on my
child’s face and the glowing smile as they present it to me (and as it is
presented to them with me looking on)-just makes me so very happy. I know you
know what I am talking about if your child has ever presented you with an award
they won for doing exceptionally well in a school subject or team activity.
This award is put prominently on display for all to see and to admire.
But I was thinking—wouldn't it be a really nice gesture to have Glass Awards or Plaques to give out for really exceptional jobs done? It would not cost the school that much more
since only truly exceptional work would be honored this way. And I know I would
chip in if the school could really not afford it. Talk to the PTA-they may be
able to arrange it. I have heard that businesses give these types of awards to
companies who are at the absolute top of whatever they make in their industry,
as well as sports teams. I have even
seen one or two at a friend’s house.
Imagine the look on your child’s face as he or she is handed
one of these for being the top of their class-or even for having the most
improvement over the year. Now this would be something they could treasure
their entire lives (not to mention your pride in their accomplishments).

It's always nice to acknowledge a childs' accomplishments. Great idea about handing the child an actual award.

My kids like them, but they do cause clutter. After they have had them for a while I take a picture and get rid of the actual award.

It would be nice to have something that holds up to time a little better than paper. I save my son's awards, but eventually they're going to break down. This is a cool idea!

This is a good idea. I think a plaque would be great - if you're not able to hang them all on the wall, at least they don't take up as much storage space as one that needs to go on a shelf!

I saved most of my children's award's over the years. An yes something beside a paper print out would stand out a little more for the child.

Those would absolutely be fun for my kiddos to have! Getting any sort of award thrills them!

That would be darling but you know there would be that one parent who will complain about the whole program because their kid did not get one...

I think this is a sweet idea, Heather!

I like the idea of children receiving something they can truly keep. When the papers are mass printed above the age of 9 it feels so fake.

When I was in the 11th grade, I won the English award for my grade. But the trophy is kept at the school. It would have been nice to have something of my own.

I agree! They should have something more than just a piece of paper. It would also give incentive for children to strive and gives more emphasis on the importance of learning rather than just sports.
